Through the UWV, Wendy discovered the Graphic Design program at
Art and the City .
Not a years-long course, but a compact, practical program in which she learned visual communication, AI tools, Adobe software, and UX thinking.
At first, I thought, “Can I even do this?” But the guidance was so good. You really learn step by step how to turn an idea into a design. Even the technical software became manageable.
During her studies, Wendy built a professional portfolio—and even before graduating, she started taking on freelance projects.
She now works part-time as a designer at a pet supply store.
“I create product visuals, banners, and social media posts. I even use AI tools for idea generation and image generation.
It feels like I’ve discovered something completely new within myself.”
Wendy (39) worked for years as an office manager. She was a true jack-of-all-trades: organizing, switching, keeping an overview—she didn’t shy away from anything.

Instead of dwelling on frustration, Wendy decided it was time for something new. She’d always had a creative streak, but there was rarely room for it in her work.
“I wanted to learn something future-proof—something I could express myself in and something I could truly use.”
